Staff Positions

Chiefs

The strength of the camp, chiefs mentor up to ten boys who have come from hard places in life. Five days a week, they eat, sleep, and work with their group. Their two off days are spent taking time for themselves. Being a chief requires a mature individual; no exceptional talent is needed, only a willingness to serve and a full reliance on the One who has called them to a truly amazing work.

Chief Mac’ once said, “The only thing worth a grain of salt at camp is the relationship between a boy and his Chief.”

Maintenance Men

Maintenance men are responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the chuckwagon, maintenance shed, and staff vehicles. They work five days a week with two days off and are essential to the support staff.

Supervisor

Each group is assigned a supervisor, besides two chiefs. This is a seasoned staff member with experience in a variety of group settings. He is involved in preplacement, intake, and evaluations. He may step in and reestablish control in a group if necessary. He oversees tent building and the condition of campsite, coordinates plans with other groups, and leads sharing time after meals.

Educational Director

At Sleepy Creek Boys Camp, the Educational Supervisor is vital to the success of the overall Camp programs, giving assistance to the Program Director in providing education within the Camp Program. He provides ongoing stability and the transference of values and Camp philosophy as counselors change. The Education Supervisor is responsible for the education assessment, the development of academic achievement plans and the periodic review of the educational progress of boys at Sleepy Creek Boys Camp. He ensures the plan is followed and that educational goals and objectives are met.

Family Worker

Sleepy Creek Boys Camp places a high priority on returning the boys to their homes and communities. To assist in the achievement of this objective the Family Worker is responsible for all communication between Sleepy Creek Boys Camp and the boy’s home. This includes home visits, follow-up of a boy’s regularly scheduled home visit, participation in planning and reviewing, reporting, and discharge planning and follow- up of all graduates.

Cooks

Cooks bring life and enthusiasm to chuckwagon, where the campers eat five days a week. They are responsible for cooking one meal a day and helping with another. They have two days off a week and are an essential part of camp as support staff to off-duty chiefs and supervisors. It takes a responsible, mature individual at least 20 years old.

Office Personnel

The office personnel are part of the support staff of camp. They are responsible for the incoming calls and emails. Bills, invoicing, payroll, and filing are also done by the office personnel. Their role in helping the Camp run smoothly and being a friendly and helpful face is vital to the Camp.
